PhD, university Master’s degrees, micro-credentials and internship programmes

Doctoral Programme

This doctoral programme trains professionals to lead R&D&I in sustainable forest management. Centred on the completion of an original doctoral thesis (either as a conventional thesis or as a compendium of publications), it offers the possibility of obtaining international or industrial doctorate mentions. The programme is complemented by an ongoing plan of training activities (courses and conferences) and promotes open science by hosting research results in the UVaDoc repository of the University of Valladolid.

DataForest Master

Master in Forest Management based on Data Science (#DataForest) This innovative programme combines the conservation of the natural environment with the potential of Big Data. Aimed at profiles linked to ecosystems and the rural environment, the master trains specialists in the most in-demand analysis and programming tools (Python, R, SQL, SAS and GIS), applying machine learning, modelling and spatial analysis techniques to forest management. #DataForest stands out for its very high employability, as it fills a job niche in full expansion, and offers great flexibility: it allows part-time study, international internships and Master’s theses, direct access to the PhD, or the option of taking it as a Double Master’s degree together with Forest Engineering.

MEDfOR Master

International Master in Mediterranean Forestry and Natural Resources Management (MEDfOR) This prestigious two-year Erasmus Mundus programme is the only one in Europe that comprehensively addresses the economic, ecological and social challenges of forest sustainability in the Mediterranean. Backed by a consortium of leading universities and international organisations, the master trains the next generation of leaders in land management, providing key solutions to threats such as climate change, wildfires and desertification in these fragile biodiversity hotspots. With a clear global outlook, its graduates gain access to solid professional careers in consultancies, public administrations, NGOs and international organisations (such as FAO or GIZ), while one third of them successfully continue their research careers through a PhD.

Micro-credential: GeoData

Micro-credential in Geospatial Analysis of Forest Data (GeoData) Designed and directed by iuFOR together with the University of Valladolid, this specialised course provides training in the management, modelling and visualisation of environmental data. Over one academic year (two semesters) and in an online format (with an option for in-person practical sessions), the programme provides technical mastery of key tools for ecosystem sustainability through a 15 ECTS curriculum structured around four compulsory subjects (Data Management and Visualisation, LiDAR Inventory, Spatial Analysis and Ecosystem Services Modelling) and one elective option: either a practical component or an integrative project.

Curricular internships for Bachelor’s, Master’s or Vocational Training programmes

We offer the opportunity to complete curricular internships in the field of forest science. With a wide variety of topics and comprehensive support with administrative procedures, these placements are designed to develop unique technical skills and strengthen the professional profile within R&D&I projects, while also opening the door to future opportunities in the sector.
